Relation to other Problems
Kleptomania, pyromania, and trichotillomania, are other disorders that are similar to pathological gambling. Mental disorders as antisocial personality disorder, or schizophrenia are other mental diseases that exhibit impulse control disorder also. People who are pathological gamblers are highly likely to exhibit other psychiatric problems at the same time, according to evidence from both community- and clinic-based studies. Substance use disorders, personality disorders, mood and anxiety disorders are just a few to mention. Drugs and theft are other source of money that gamblers turn to as the debt builds. Loan sharks and bookies can create a lot of this pressure and any gambler who does not get treatment for pathological gambling can become depressed and desperate and can then contemplate suicide. Personal relationships can easily suffer from compulsive gambling. It has been found that 10% of compulsive gamblers had been married at least three times, according to a study done of American men in 1991. Just 2% of those men who were not gamblers were married more than twice. In homes where pathological gambling is present, another common occurrence is abuse. Improper emotional development is caused by growing up in a situation like that, not to mention the risk of following in the behavior of problem gambling.
